Suzanne was a dedicated elementary school teacher in Brampton and then at W.E Thompson school in Kincardine. As a grade 1, 2 teacher Suzanne taught hundreds of children to read, write, count, have confidence and love learning. A gifted educator, she had extra time and energy for those who found school more challenging and was committed to making learning a positive experience for all children. Former students and their parents have expressed gratitude over the years for giving them that important start.
Suzanne was an avid gardener, bridge player, volunteer and walker. It was common to see her taking her morning constitutional on the boardwalk, rail trail or beach. Suzanne loved the song birds in her yard, the Stratford Festival and continental road trips with her beloved husband Mike. She was happiest when organizing events to bring her extended family and friends together. She had a big smile and time for everyone who needed it.
A devoted wife and mother, she had a special place in her expansive heart for her three grandchildren Dani, Jacob and Charlie. She was a big part of their early lives and they were the centre of her universe. Her passing has left a huge hole in the lives her family but we know Suzanne and Mike are waving at us all from the car window on that eternal road trip in the sky. “Second star to the right and straight on till morning”.
Thank you to kind neighbours, friends and local business owners who dropped by, ran errands, went that extra mile and supported her as her health failed. Thank you to Dr. Roth and the Kincardine medical staff at the hospital and clinic. We will never be able to thank all of you enough. You showed the highest level of care, expertise and dedication possible. Thank you to the caring staff at R’villa and Trillium for showing her the kindness and care that she showed others.
Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, on Saturday, May 20, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:30 p.m., with Pastor Ray Luinstra officiating. Final resting place, Kincardine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Kincardine Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
