Susan Wylie – 2017

Obituary
Easily recognizable by her curly red hair, Susan was statuesque and elegant. This along with her witty, understated sense of humor made her truly unique.
Susan enjoyed a life of travelling many countries, enjoying art, fine wine and music. However, she was also a private person who loved spending time with family and her dogs – especially Shamus and Sassy with whom she had many walks with friends through Belgravia and Laurier Park.
She enjoyed the local music of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Opera and Edmonton International Jazz. She participated in Questers and many fundraising events such as Kids with Cancer Beaded Journeys Gala.
Her summer home was the cottage at Ma-Me-O Beach, Pigeon Lake, where she spent her most memorable moments with family and welcomed many friends.
Susan was born and raised in Camrose, with weekends and holidays spent in Bittern Lake with her maternal Grandparents. She graduated from Camrose High School. After receiving her BA from U of A, she had an unforgettable start to her career as ‘the flying Social Worker’ in the Smokey Lake area. She then spent many years at the University and Royal Alexandra Hospitals specializing in Women’s Health.
As a life-long Socialist, which was the polar opposite to her husband Bruce, the left will no longer cancel the right!
Susan is survived by her loving husband Bruce, sons Robbie and Corey; sister Wendy, nieces Andrea and Stephanie; grandchildren and grandnieces; special friends Holly, Jo-Anne and Jack, Marcia and Wally.
Many thanks to Dr. S. Kavanagh, Dr. D. Watrich and the nurses whose care and compassion was provided with dignity and grace. She was predeceased by her mother, Nora C. Wylie, her father R.C. (Bob) Wylie and Grandparents CTC (Don) and Edna (Queenie) Roper.
After Susan’s diagnosis in August, she lived her life to the fullest up until her peaceful passing on January 22, 2017 surrounded by loving family and friends. Donations in her honor would be graciously accepted and appreciated by any dog rescue charity, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. She would have liked that.
A gathering in her honor will be held in the summer at Ma-Me-O Beach, details will follow.
