Susan Ann (Moss) (Wilson) Roach
1948-2017
Susan Ann
Roach passed away peacefully on Saturday September
16th, at Bobby’s Hospice with her
family by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer at
the age of 69. Born on January 31st,
1948 in Shemogue, NB, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey Moss
& Doreen (Taylor) Moss.
Susan
graduated teachers college in 1968 and went on to teach in a one room
school house in Cape Tormentine, NB. When the school house
closed, she began teaching at Port Elgin Elementary School, where she
taught mostly grades 1 & 2 for 21 years. Her
students were very fond of her.
When she met
her husband Ray Roach from Saint John, NB, she retired from teaching
shortly after and she joined him to work at his service station and
shop where she made many life long friends through their
customers. Susan had an extreme love for drag racing that
she shared with her husband Ray and daughter Mary. They
rarely missed a race weekend. Susan and Ray were married on
the starting line of the Maitland, NS drag track in 1989.
Susan is
survived by the love of her life, her husband of 28 years, Ray Roach,
her daughters Mary Roach (Nathan) of Saint John, Christine Wilson of
St. Johns, NL and Angie Atkins (Jim) of Moncton, her son Donnie Wilson
(Tara) of Moncton, grandchildren, Taylor Wilson, Tonya Wilson,
Victoria Atkins & Hayley Atkins. Sisters, Shirley
Moss (Brenda Anderson) and Tracey Moss, all of Shemogue, brother Rick
Moss (Darlyne), and Uncle John Moss, all of Shemogue. Sisters-in- law
Bernice Moss (Fred Melanson) of Sackville, Joyce Penzes of Ontario and
Kathy Buck of New York. A brother-in-law Roland Roach of
Ontario and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents,
she was also predeceased by her brother Kenneth Moss in 2007, a
brother-in-law Donnie Roach and sister-in-law Betty Roach.
She will also be greatly missed by her two dogs, Nitro &
Malibu and her two cats, Tom &
Elvira.
Arrangements
are under the care and direction of Brenan’s
Bay View Funeral Home at 1461 Manawagonish Road, West
Saint John (634-7425), with visitation on Wednesday, September
20th from 2pm – 8pm. The funeral
service will be held at Brenan’s Bay View Chapel on
Thursday, September 21st at 1:00
pm.
The family
would like to thank Oncologist Dr. Samantha Gray and the all staff at
Bobby’s Hospice for the extra special care they provided to
Susan.
In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made in Susan’s memory to the
Jonathan Young Memorial Fund, The Atlantic Drag Racing Association or
to Bobby’s Hospice.
