Stu Lorencz
It is with great sadness that the family of Stu Lorencz announces his sudden passing on December 8, 2017 at the age of 63 years. Stu passed away peacefully in his sleep, with no pain. Stu is remembered by his children Melanie Beastall (Philip), Sheyne Espey (Melissa), and Christopher Lorencz (Rosalie); grandchildren Declan Beastall, Caitlin Beastall, Amea Beastall, and Thomas Lorencz; and dear friend Erin Jorde and her children Tyson Jorde and Kaiden Jorde. Stu is survived by his brothers Ernie Lorencz (Darlene) and Don Lorencz (Sally); his sisters Ronnie Gartner, Bev Lorencz, and Ina Buchinskas (Gary); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Stu was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Kathy Lorencz, and Iona and Jim Stark; his brothers Michael and Thomas Lorencz; and his father-in-law Howard Anderson.
Stu Lorencz was born on February 6, 1954 in Manning, Alberta. His early years were spent on the family farm, helping his father. As a young man, he left the farm and moved north to Manning, where he worked a variety of oilfield and trucking jobs. It was a momentous day when he purchased his first truck and began running as an owner operator, working for himself. He married Joan in 1978 and bought a house in Clyde. Melanie was born in April 1981, and Chris followed in September 1983. Sheyne joined the family in 1992. Stu spent most of the 90s a very busy man with three children at home and a growing trucking business. He transitioned from being an owner operator with a single truck to a business owner with 7 trucks, numerous drivers, shops, and equipment. The core of his business was hauling essential goods and supplies into the Arctic. He spent many years in the north, developed friendships that lasted the rest of his life, and gained a real appreciation for the culture and art of the Inuit.
As Stu grew older, his passion for the community and generosity became apparent. He wanted to give back to the community that had been his home for decades, and so threw name in the hat for the municipal election in Clyde, and was elected to council in 2007. Stu loved being a councillor; he touched many lives in the Westlock area while he was on council. He was devoted to the youth and the seniors, having a soft spot in his heart for Smithfield and Pembina Lodges, Eleanor Hall School, and the Clyde Christian Bible Church Youth Group. All of the kids knew Stu was the one to hit up for a fundraiser. He was generous to a fault, and would always help someone in need.
Stu’s focus in his final years has been on his family. With the arrival of his grandkids, his already enormous heart overflowed with love and pride. No children have ever been spoiled quite so much as Stu’s grandkids. His favourite times had been spent at the lake camping and boating with friends and family. In fact this past summer, you could say he lived at the lake. This last year has been the best year of his life, and he had found true happiness with Erin and contentment as his family expanded.
He was taken too soon, and leaves behind giant holes in the hearts of many that will never be filled.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Stu Lorencz on December 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Clyde Community Hall. Anyone who wishes to make a donation in honour of Stu may do so to the Clyde Christian Bible Church Youth Group.
The family thanks everyone for their kind words and support during this difficult time.
