Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Pearl Oster, SP (Sister Casilda) died peacefully in the Infirmary at Providence Centre, Edmonton on November 7, 2017 at the age of 99. Born in St. Walburg, SK in 1918, Sister Pearl entered the Sisters of Providence in 1947 and gave nursing care in northern Alberta and B.C. and in Calgary. She later worked in pastoral care in St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, B.C. Sister leaves to mourn her loss the members of her religious community, the Sisters of Providence, her sister Mrs. Katherine Sharp and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Christian and Elizabeth Oster and her siblings Rosaline, Celestine, Alphonse, Vincent, Paul, Mary, Clementine, Elizabeth and Madeleine. The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Pearl by the nursing staff at Providence Centre and the messages of condolence received from friends and former coworkers. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
Prayers will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 13, and Father Gracjan Burkiciak will celebrate the Funeral Mass on Tuesday November 14 at 9:00 a.m. at Providence Centre Chapel 3005 – 119 Street NW, Edmonton. Burial will follow in the Sisters of Providence cemetery in Calgary.
