1914-2017
The death of Sr. Eva Bonokoski (Sister Celia Marie) occurred on
Friday, November 3, 2017 at Ruth Ross Residence. Sister Eva, a
daughter of the late Thomas and Eva (Ferderer) Bonokoski was born in
Torquay, Saskatchewan. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the
Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1935.
Sister Eva spent most of her religious life supervising food
preparation and serving as homemaker at SCIC houses, missions and
hospitals in Saint John, St. Stephen, NB, Vancouver, BC, Edmonton and
Wetaskiwin, Alberta and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She also served
as Assistant to the Director of Novices from 1954 to 1967 in Saint
John. From 1982 to 1988 Sister Eva provided food services at the Villa
Madonna Retreat House in Rothesay, NB. She continued food services at
St. Vincent’s Convent in Saint John until she moved to Ruth Ross
Residence in 2008. She celebrated her 100th birthday in 2014.
She is survived by her brother, John (Lucille) Bonokoski of Estevan,
Saskatchewan, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she
was predeceased by brothers, Matthew, Thomas and Peter Bonokoski,
sisters, Theresa Boucher, Rose Yoner, Marie Mosser, Nympha Phillips
and Kate Mokelki.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Monday, November 6,
2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 pm in Carmel
Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday,
November 7, 2017 in Carmel Chapel at 10:00 am followed by interment in
the Sisters of Charity plot St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements
are under the care of Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo
