Siegfried Schroeter
November 4, 1933 – January 30, 2017
It is with sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Siegfried Schroeter on Monday, January 30, 2017. His rich and active life was cut short by a debilitating stroke 11 days prior. He was 83. Mercifully, Siegfried was in no pain and well cared for at Foothills Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Siegfried embraced life fully – right until the very end. He was thankful for every adventure he could experience – whether traveling abroad (most recently to Alaska and Cuba), enjoying a new book (politics, history, philosophy were his favorites), attending classes at University of Calgary (he was always curious for more knowledge), or embracing the outdoors (he loved hiking, kayaking, and downhill skiing). Siegfried was good-natured, kind, and gregarious; he loved to laugh and knew how to take life not too seriously. He was also intelligent and reflective, willing to challenge his beliefs and continuously improve himself. After the death of his first wife four years ago, Siegfried found love again late in life – a source of much joy and happiness in his final years. He will be greatly missed by his only child, Mark Schroeter (and partner, Blake), along with his beloved new companion, Frances (Traudl) Maier and her family: Ralph,Katrin,Christopher and Michael. In Germany, Siegfried is survived by his sister, Anita Wicker, cousin Brunhilde Pick, and several nieces and nephews, including Marlies Langhof, Martin & Manfred Wicker, Andrea Ostertun and Beate Schröter.
Friends are invited to join a Prayer Service at St. Boniface Catholic Church (1923 Broadview Road NW, Calgary) on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Boniface Catholic Church (1923 Broadview Road NW) on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 am. His interment, next to his first love and wife of 50 years, Regina Schroeter, will take place later this Spring at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Red Deer.
