Shirley Reid
1934-2017
Shirley Agnes Reid, age 83, formerly of 511 High St., New
Glasgow and Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home, passed away
December 12, 2017 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital
with family at her side. Born May 28, 1934, she was a daughter of the
late Albert Patrick “Nonnie” and Theresa (Schrader)
Morgan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles
“Chuck” Reid; sister, Florence Campbell; brothers:
James “Jimmie” Morgan and Kenneth
“Kenny” Morgan. She is survived by a son, Kevin
Fraser Reid; daughter, Theresa Lynn “Terry” Reid;
sister-in-law, Betty Reid. For many years, she was a custodial and
housekeeping employee at the Roseland Theatre, Tara Motel, Canada
Permanent Trust Building and MacGregor Building. She also worked as a
clerk at the old Woolworth’s Store in Downtown New Glasgow.
She, along with Charles, were tireless advocates for the mentally
handicapped. In their younger days, they never missed a
“Special Olympics” competition, cheering on the
athletes. She was a member and sang in the choir at First United
Church in Trenton, and worked in the nursery. The family wants to send
heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ivey’s Terrace Nursing
Home, Glen Haven Manor, along with the Palliative Care Unit and
Emergency Department of the Aberdeen Hospital, where Shirley received
excellent care and comfort. Her “guardian angel”
Agnes was a ray of sunshine in her day, and Vivian Breen was a breath
of light with her hearty humour. Visitation from 1-1:45pm Friday in
First United Church, Trenton, with funeral service at 2pm, Rev. Wade
Reppert officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
Contributions in Shirley’s memory can be made to Summer
Street Industries Foundation or First United Church (General Memorial
Fund). Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral
Home, New Glasgow.
