Shirley Margaret Steeves
Shirley Margaret Steeves, daughter of the late Harold P. and
Celia (MacIntyre) Steeves, 92, of Targettville and formerly of
Moncton, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the
Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital. Born in Moncton, she was the beloved
wife of the late Oley Steeves.
Shirley was an elementary school teacher at Parkside School
and Queen Elizabeth School (Moncton), retiring in 1981 after 38 years.
She was a piano teacher and choir director. Shirley was first director
of the Steeves Family Choir 1966 Reunion. She was a member of Parkside
Baptist Church, as well as organist and choir director for forty
years, organist and choir director at St. Andrew’s
Presbyterian Church for five years and for the past several years, and
until her death, she was organist and choir director of St.
Paul’s Anglican Church, Browns Yard.
Shirley is survived by nephews, Steven MacDonald of
Targettville, Richard and Dewey Steeves of Moncton, David Steeves of
Newfoundland; nieces, Debbie and Diane Steeves of Newfoundland. In
addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her
sister, Helen MacDonald (late Earl); brother, Orville Steeves (late
Vera) and by nephew, Danny Steeves. She was the last surviving member
of her immediate family.
We wish to thank the doctors and nurses of Ste-Anne Hospital
for their excellent care and compassion of Shirley these past few
weeks. She thought they were the sweetest girls and was so proud of
them.
As per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no
visitation hours. A Funeral Service will be held at St.
Paul’s Anglican Church, Browns Yard, on Saturday, January
14, 2017 at 2:00 pm, with Rev’d Chris Ketch officiating.
Reception to follow in the Church basement.
Arrangements are under the professional care of Fergusons
Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995).
