Porter’s Lake/Sydney Mines
The family of H. Scott Wolstenholme, 59, of Porters Lake, Nova Scotia (formerly Sydney Mines) announce his passing to be with the Lord on January 1st, 2017. He was born to the late Archibald and Alice (Simpson) Wolstenholme on July 29, 1957.
Scott attended elementary school and high school in Sydney Mines. He then attended Saint Mary’s University, where he graduated with his B.Comm. He furthered his studies with a HCOM from the Canadian Hospital Association. His working career for the first 29 years was with Healthcare in Accounting and Materiel Management in his loved Cape Breton. He then moved to Porters Lake and finished his working career with Interuniversity Services (ISI) in Group Procurement. He always said that any job worth doing was worth doing well. He enjoyed his work and the friendships that he had made along the way. Scott was also very active in the community, volunteering with sports teams over the years. This included Northside Minor Hockey where he held roles as manager, coach, trainer, and treasurer for various teams his son played on. He could always be counted on to step up and take on any role.
Scott was predeceased by Marilyn, his best friend, and the love of his life for 34 years, in June 2014. He is survived by what Marilyn and he always said are their greatest accomplishments, their sons: Ryan Wolstenholme, Porters Lake, and Kent Wolstenholme, Halifax. He loved both sons dearly and took pride in them. His family meant the world to him; both boys were such great comfort and joy to him since their Mother’s passing. Scott and his sons also developed a friendship with a very kind young man, Ashwood Turnquest, Dartmouth. Scott was honored to consider Ashwood as his third son. Scott is also survived by his Mother Alice, Sydney Mines, his sister Cindy (Don) Perks, Sydney Mines, and their children: Jon (Amber) Perks, Sydney Mines, and Jessica Perks, Whistler. He is survived by his brother and his brother’s family Glen (Wanda) Wolstenholme, Sydney. He is survived by his brother-in–law Lorne (Janet) MacDowell, Port Hawkesbury, and their children: Kenzie (Andrew) Jones, Moncton, and Carly MacDowell, Halifax. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Beverley’s daughter Lisa (Spencer Dellapinna) Richardson, Truro. He was predeceased by his Father Archibald (2007), father-in-law Jacob MacDowell (1963), mother-in-law Violet (Falle) MacDowell (2016) and sisters-in-law: Beverley (MacDowell) Richardson (2007), and Anita MacDowell (2007).
Scott loved his Lord and Savior and was an active member of any church he attended. He was raised in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Sydney Mines. In 1980, when he and Marilyn married, he was baptized and became a member of Clyde Avenue Baptist Church in Sydney Mines. He along with Marilyn were involved in Youth Ministry and were choir members for all their Christian lives. He and Marilyn sang duets for all their married life. He and Marilyn were active in camping ministry at Homestead Memorial Camp on the Mira. He and his family later joined Calvary Baptist Church in North Sydney where he was a member and often remembered the dear people of Calvary fondly. He later attended Lake Echo Fellowship Baptist in Mineville and Birch Cove Baptist Church in Bedford. Upon Marilyn’s passing, Scott sought a new Church home, which he found with the wonderful people of First Baptist Church in Dartmouth. He was a choir member and got involved in youth ministry as a prayer warrior.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to the nurses of Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital in Musquodoboit Harbour, Dr. Jaclyn Flemming, and Dr. Robert Merritt for the outstanding care and support that you provided Scott and the family while dealing with his illness.
By request there will be no visitation. A private burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery on Wednesday. A Memorial Service will take place at Calvary Baptist Church in North Sydney on Thursday, January 5th at 10:00am with Rev. John Hannem officiating and then at First Baptist Church Dartmouth, on Friday, January 6th at 2:00pm with Rev. Martin Zwicker and Rev. Gavin McCombie officiating. Donations in Scott’s memory may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in North Sydney, First Baptist Church in Dartmouth, or a charity of your choice.
