Ruth Gauvin passed away on July 27, 2017 at the Meadows in Swift Current surrounded by family in a room filled with love. The sixth child of Herman and Mina Kemper, she was born on March 3, 1927 in Shaunavon. She grew up on the family farm on “the bench” north of Pine Cree Park. Ruth attended Antelope Lake School; completed her high school in Eastend and then finished her Grade 12 in Regina so she could acquire the credits that were necessary to enter nursing school. She also resided in Regina as child while her father served as a CCF MLA in the thirties. She knew at a young age nursing was her calling. She attended nursing school at Medicine Hat from 1945-1948 and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Her career in nursing took her to the Regina General, Fort San TB Sanatorium, Winnipeg’s Children’s Hospital and Denver, Colorado. After 3½ years of living in the States, she longed for the hills of home and returned to Saskatchewan to work as a public health nurse in the Shaunavon District. It was in this capacity that she met a tall, dark, handsome Frenchman named Gerry Gauvin working at the Central Garage in Ponteix. A romance blossomed and they were married on Nov. 3, 1955. Ruth & Gerry resided in Ponteix for a short while; relocating to Regina shortly after the birth of their first child Denise in 1957. Vic followed in 1960 and Mina in 1963. During their time in Regina she worked as a Public Health Nurse and a private nurse. As the family grew she worked casual at the Regina General Hospital. Ruth & Gerry worked as a tag team, while Gerry worked on the road during the week Ruth took care of the household and then often worked weekends when Gerry was home. The family moved to Swift Current in 1969. Ruth continued to nurse at the Swift Current Union Hospital and then with Wheatland Home Care until she retired in 1992. In her retirement Ruth and Gerry had many memorable trips with family and friends. They loved dancing together and did this beautifully. In 2002 Ruth suffered a debilitating stroke. While the stroke may have affected her mobility it never changed her positive outlook, faith and love for her husband and family. She was the most loving, caring, non-judgemental person. As an example of her loving nature, she would welcome lonely homecare patients into her home for a Christmas or Easter meal with her family, not to mention her Easter bunny runs delivering Easter baskets on Easter morning to her homecare patient’s door-steps. She touched the lives of many people. She will always be lovingly remembered for her warmth and love as a wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, friend and caregiver. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Herman and Mina Kemper; brothers George (Tillie) Kemper, Frank (Marj) Kemper; sisters Lela (Vic) Meyer, Ora (Terry) Way-White (Harry Devine); in-laws Victor and Rose Gauvin; brother in-laws Charlie (Viv) Gauvin, Rev. Leo Gauvin OMI, Phil (Terry) Gauvin, Erick Jones and Keith Hannan; sister in-laws Rose (Keith) Ernie, Irene (Allan) MacIntosh, Louise (Andy) Dubourt; nephews Ken Kemper, Herman Kemper, John Devine and Father Roland Budourt and granddaughter Katie Wallin. She is survived by her loving husband Gerry; her children Denise (Ted) Wallin, Vic (Donna Graf, Fiancée ) Gauvin and Mina (Laverne) Krywulak; grandchildren Tyler Wallin, Becky (Lucas) Gartner, Rachel (Cody) Yolland, Mitchell Gauvin, Danille (Connor Thompson) Gauvin, Nick Gauvin, Vanessa Gauvin, Jackson Krywulak, Danika Krywulak; great grandchildren Brynn Wallin, Bobby Wallin, Jayan Gartner, Amelia Gartner; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass Service was held Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 1:30 pm from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Richard Jasiak MSF and Father Aquinaldo Fermo officiating. The Organist was Marlene Dolter. Pallbearers were Mitch Gauvin, Nick Gauvin, Jackson Krywulak, Laverne Krywulak, Tyler Wallin and Ted Wallin. The Ushers were Bert Legault and Merv Caven. The Interment Service took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.
