1930-2017
87, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2017.
Born in Barryville, N.B. Ruth was a daughter of the late Merle Hachey
and Mary Grace (Ross) Hachey.
Ruth was employed with the George Eddy Company Ltd. for
several years in Bathurst, N.B., married Bernie Cassidy and moved to
Halifax. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s
League and enjoyed volunteering with Hope Cottage, Hand and Hand, Camp
Hill Hospital (Vets), and the Catechetical Program at St.
Michael’s Parish in Halifax for many years.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bernie; sons,
David (Janet), Burlington, Ont; Brian (Marnie), Ripley, Ont; Blair
(Penny), Halifax; grandchildren: Sheila, Julie, Sarah, Lauren, Hannah,
Emily, and Courtney; sister, Eleanor Olscamp (John), Moncton, N.B. She
was predeceased by her stepfather, Jack McGraw; brothers, Hanford,
Ross, and George Hachey.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all for the
outpouring of love, support, and prayers. Thanks to Dr. Kailee
Sutherland and Staff from the Spryfield Medical Centre for their
kindness and to David Landry and Nurse Algee from the QEII Renal
Clinic Division of Nephrology for their valued information and
kindness during our visits.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral
Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, where visitation will be held
on Friday, August 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on
Saturday, August 12 at 10 AM at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic
Church, 14 St. Michael’s Avenue; followed by a reception in
the parish hall. Interment will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery,
7076 Mumford Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St.
Michael’s Church or a charity of one’s
choice.
