Saunders, Russell Grimes “Russ” (Navy WW II veteran, aged 93 years) Born in Carleton Place, ON on December 28, 1923 to parents Richard Arthur Saunders and Doretta (nee Dupont). Doretta passed away after giving birth to Russ. He was raised by his grandparents Albert Saunders and Minnie (nee Harley). In 1939, at the age of 17, Russ joined the Royal Canadian Navy and was assigned to the HMCS Lanark. On April 5, 2017 at 12:33 am, at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, Russ peacefully passed away surrounded by his family and loving wife of 70 years, Doreen (nee More) of Almonte, ON.
