Obituary of Roy Crate
Roy W. Crate
August 28th, 1924 – December 10th, 2017
Born in Smiths Falls, Roy was known as a good man by all he encountered, and this quiet goodness trickled into all areas of his life. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Lois, and they soon found themselves on the farm with four boys: Robert, Donald, Douglas and John.
Roy volunteered to fight for Canada during the Second World War and was wounded in action in Italy. After the war, he continued working for CP Rail as an engineer for the remainder of his career. In retirement, Roy and Lois’s lives were blessed with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Roy’s family tree was rooted together with his wife Lois, nee Long (pre-deceased). Their branches are their four sons and their wives: Robert and Nancy, Donald and Vicki, Douglas (pre-deceased) and Juanita, and John and Sally. The many leaves of this Crate tree are their grandchildren: Nikki, Matthew, Mark, Jillian, Andrew, Michael and Jennifer, and their great-grandchildren: Connor, Benjamin, Gracie-Lynn, Olivia and Sophia.
Roy passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 10th at the Perth Hospital at the age of 93 and was the oldest living member of the Crate Family. With a wink and a smile, and a hand moving upwards, we send you on your way – You are forever loved –
A celebration of Roy’s life will occur at Lannin Funeral Home in Smiths Falls on Thursday, December 14th, with a viewing from 10:00-11:00am and a memorial service at Lannin’s immediately following. Remembrances made in honour of Roy may be directed towards the Canadian Cancer Society, The Royal Canadian Legion, Wounded Warriors Canada, or a charity of your choosing.
