Rose Marie was born to Marion and Arthur Timwell Thompson at Regina Beach, Saskatchewan on May 12, 1936. She was the second youngest of 7 children.
She married Chester Downton in 1955 and they made their home in Saskatoon with three children, one of whom died as an infant. She enjoyed her work and was respected as a Ward Clerk at the U of S Hospital for many years.
After Chester passed, Rose eventually moved to Vernon where she married Tom Spicer, a childhood friend, in 1995. They moved to an acreage in Armstrong where they could have horses – a lifelong dream of Rose’s! This is also where she honed her artistic talents and painted many beautiful pictures some of which won awards at the IPE! She also enjoyed gardening, singing and playing the guitar, and travelling!
She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings Mary Parker and Jim Thompson; husband Tom Spicer; daughter and son-in-law Joy and Andre Lemieux; son Michael Downton; grandsons Shawn Bureaud (wife, Diana), Raine and Tyr Downton; three great grandchildren – Emily, Paige and Ethan Bureaud; and many other family and friends.
Rose Marie is now reunited with her mother, Marion; daughter, Penny; siblings, Violet, Daisy, Marion and Alfred; and first husband, Chester.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Pleasant Valley Manor, Patten wing, for their thoughtful, dignified and compassionate care of Rose Marie.
If you would like to pay your respects, a tea will be held on Monday, November 20, starting at 1pm, in the tea room at Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services, 2980 Smith Drive, Armstrong, BC.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
