Ronald Reece Bennett (Okotoks) - April 15

Ronald Reece Bennett (Okotoks) – April 15, 1943 – May 2, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Bennett, at our home after a lengthy illness. His pranks, joke telling, laughter, humorous stories and big hugs will be missed more than words can express.
Providing loving support for Ron is his wife Janet of 46 years. His daughters, Sandra Smith (Mike Calvert), Janell Ferris (Rick), (grandsons-Wyatt and Jared), Daughter-in-law, Wanita (grandchildren- Brienna and Justin). Ron is also survived by his sister, Bernice Dyck from… Kamloops and his twin brother Donald Parker Bennett (Merle) from Kimberly. Ron was pre-deceased by his parents, Marlen and Eliza Bennett, and two brothers, Eldon and Del, three sisters, Nedra, Jean and Deanna, and his son Ronald Allan.
Ron was born in Lethbridge and raised in Taber, Alberta.
When he met Janet he was employed by Air Canada, in which provided them the opportunity to travel many places. His love of cars led him to McLaren Auction and later Area Auction in Calgary, a family owned business where many of his customers became friends. His motto was always “Our customers are worth a mint!” – in which he always had a basket of mints for them.
After an injury and a long recovery he worked at a storage company out of Okotoks. He then became a Commissionaire for the Gov’t of Alberta where he was proud to wear the uniform and loved the job as much as the people he worked with. Some of the accomplishments of his giving spirit were his volunteer work with Citizens on Patrol in Okotoks, Okotoks Oilers, Okotoks Dawgs, CancerMount in Calgary, and Palliative Care in High River and Calgary. He also worked security at the Okotoks RCMP.
Ron and Janet billeted exchange students from, Brazil (Joao & Flavio) and Germany (Lucas). Joao and his family have visited a number of times from Brazil, and Janet and Ron were guests of theirs one Christmas, they have become “family members”.
The joy of his life was his four grandchildren, spending time with them, along with watching them play football, dirt biking and lacrosse. The family gatherings at the Bennett’s, was where good food and humorous antics were the norm.
The family would like to thank, Dr. T Dowdall and the staff at the Oilfields Hospital for all their wonderful care during his lengthy illness.
