Obituary for Ronald Gregory Boyko
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Ronald Gregory Boyko of Bergland, ON, formerly of Winnipeg, MB on September 12, 2017 in Thunder Bay, ON.
Ron was born in Winnipeg August 6, 1948 to the late Bernice and Boris Boyko. He lived and attended school in the Elmwood area of the city. Ron loved the game of La Crosse and that love for his favorite sport spanned his entire life. He played LaCrosse all through his school years and well into his 30’s. Ron had the distinction of playing his favourite sport in the first Canada games. Ron made friends wherever he went and he loved attending the golf tournament that took place yearly with all his high school buddies.
Ron had a passion for candy making for over 30 years and was well known for being “The Fudge Guy”. He prided himself on his candy making abilities and often bragged that his was the best fudge around.
Ron was also known as an avid reader; there was rarely a time that he didn’t have his nose buried in a book. He was a regular at the libraries around the district checking out all of the local history books he could find.
Ron’s partner in crime was his beloved wife of 28 years, Maxine Ruymar. Together they struck out across Canada attending various shows to showcase their candy products. Ron and Maxine were inseparable. In the last years Maxine developed cancer and Ron was her source of never wavering love, comfort, strength and support. Ron will be forever in our hearts as our rock. Husband, father and step father, brother, cousin and friend.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Maxine Ruymar, his sons Ronald Boyko Jr, and Nicholas Boyko, his step children Rhonda Ruymar (Welly Gibson), Cole Ruymar (Donna), his brothers Terry Boyko, Darrell Boyko (Kady) and his sister Susan Boyko (Konrad Leszczynski) as well as countless cousins and friends.
As per Ron’s wishes cremation has already taken place, and there will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of Ron’s life will take place at the Stratton Seniors Center on Wednesday September 20, 2017 at 1pm. A wake will be held in Winnipeg to celebrate Ron’s life at a later date. If anyone so wishes donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
