Roland “Rollie” LaFosse
LaFosse, Roland “Rollie: – age 85 of Dartmouth. Passed away on Saturday October 28, 2017 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Cape La Hune, NL, he was a son of the late Thomas and Ethel (Baggs) LaFosse. Rollie started working as a fisherman in Newfoundland, he then joined the military in August 1955 and served for 25 years, with the Canadian Guards, PPCLI, Army Service Corps, 2nd Battalion and HMCS Algonquin. He also served on Peace Keeping duties in Germany and Cyprus and served at Petawawa, Kingston Ontario, Winnipeg, Dana Sask. and CFS Millcove. Rollie retired from the Canadian Armed forces in 1980 and went to work with the Federal Department of Fisheries and retired in 1985. He was a member of Music and Friends which entertained seniors in Nursing Homes. He was an accordion player and played with many groups at dances. He was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Westphal. Rollie was predeceased by son Calvin, in infancy, Clyde; sister, Mary, Maude; brothers, Edgar, George. Rollie is left to mourn his wife, Gwen of 64 years; sister, Jessie, Robinsons NL; brother, Tom (Millicent), St. John’s and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday, October 31st in St. John’s Anglican Church, 1215 Main Street, Westphal. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
