Robert Perry – 2017

Robert Irwin Perry
of Glen Margaret, passed away peacefully in his sleep after more than a two year battle with cancer on February 18, 2017 at the age of 71. Son of the late Randel and Hazel (Austin) Perry. Survived by his loving wife Lorna Kay (Murphey, Vickers); son, John (Mayu); step-daughter, Deborah Coles; step-sons, Michael (Linda)Vickers, David Allan (Ki-jin) Vickers; grandchildren, Haruna, Shigen, Yuna and Shogo Perry; Ceilidh Coles, Andrew Vickers, Meaghan MacGillivray; Katie and Sarah Vickers; sisters, Suzanne Lawson and Gay Bannister; brother, Douglas (Jane) Thompson. Predeceased by his brother-in-law’s, Arthur Lawson and Roger Bannister. Bob “Rob” had a wry sense of humour and the ones closest to him understood his jokes and responded to the twinkle in his eye. He loved the sea and fishing for mackerel every single day of the summer with his wife, who was his best friend. Bob joined the Navy at the young age of 17 as a radio operator where he reached the rank of Leading Seaman, but found he was seasick whenever he was at sea. He worked for the Department of Highways and Bell Canada before moving to Nova Scotia where he worked for 23 years at Nautel in the Sales Department. He was past President of the Seabright Legion and one the founders of the local Sea Cadets. Bob was an avid ham operator and bird watcher. He enjoyed the time he got to spend with his dog – Victor. Since his retirement, he enjoyed winters in Florida and fishing in St. Margaret’s Bay. Many people appreciated the mackerel that were caught. Cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of his Life will be planned for the spring/summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
