October 31, 1932 – October 12, 2017
Bob passed away peacefully at age 84 in Orillia, ON. He is survived by his children Colin (Bonnie), Mia and Karen (Tim and their children Cameron, Drew, Grace and Matthew), their mother Charlotte and his sister Elisabeth (Gord). Many thanks to Wendy and the staff at the Leacock Care Centre for their kindness with Bob these last few years.
Bob had an adventurous life and lived it to the fullest.
Growing up in Toronto, Bob and Libby were raised by their parents Eleanor and Harold in their happy home on Briar Hill. He attended North Toronto Collegiate HS and was a member of the track and field team.
After high school and a brief stint at U of T in the Forestry program, Bob went off into the world of mining and geology and had many adventures around the world. He always loved to travel and instilled that in his children.
He eventually met and married Charlotte Creller and they settled in Toronto where they raised three children. Bob’s true love was the Georgian Bay where he spent every summer as a child on Isle Elawee with his family, and then on his own island, Wit’s End. Many happy memories were made here; picnics on the Umbrella Islands, early morning fishing, fixing water pumps, motors and docks, fantastic lightning storms, water skiing, battling rattle snakes, mice and raccoons, blueberry picking and pies, constant building, renovations and maintenance, teaching us all to drive the boat, Grandma Lee’s 80th birthday celebration, and many wonderful gatherings of family and friends.
Bob successfully managed being bipolar for much of his life and for that his family is grateful. While his later years were overtaken by his illness, we will fondly remember him for his kindness, his mischievousness, his beautiful poetry, his love of (and insistence of) proper grammar and good posture and his fantastic ability to connect with people of all ages. Bob, you were loved by all. We will dearly miss you.
There will be no service, however we will have a private memorial next summer on the Georgian Bay.
