Robert “Bob” Pickering
1944-2017
Robert ‘Bob’ Murray Pickering passed away
at age 73 on December 6, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, in
Fredericton, NB after a long struggle with COPD.
Bob was raised in a family with strong ties to aviation,
joined the Navy in 1963-1972, stationed at CFB Shearwater, also sailed
on HMS Bonaventure aircraft carrier. In 1972 relocated back
to Ottawa employed with Laurentian Air Services. Moving to NB in 1975,
employed at Woodlands Aviation, Fredericton and 24 years at J.D.
Irving, Saint John on their spray fleet of aircraft.
Bob had a great love of family, closely following the
grandkids sports and activities to the point of being ejected from the
field for protesting a controversial call.
Bob is survived by daughters Rhonda (Norm) and Brenda
(Darren); Ex-wife and best friend Kathy; grandchildren Kristi (Mike),
Bruce (Jennifer), Mikayla, Keagan and Kasey; his beautiful great
grandchildren Tobias and Lucy; brothers Hart of Red Deer and Dick
(Jane) of Montreal; and sister-in-law Dorothy McCleave.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Douglas Pickering and
Dorothy Nichol; father-in-law John Richards; sisters-in-law Sheila
Pickering, Janet Keyes; brothers-in-law Oral McCleave and Gilbert
Richards; nephews Andrew and John; as well as a niece
Connie.
Special thanks to the palliative care staff of Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital for the devoted care of Bob in his last days. Also
to all of the friends and family who took time to come see dad, you
made his days reminiscing about all the airplane
stories.
According to his friends he left in time for Happy
Hour.
As per Bob’s wishes there will be no funeral
service. Memorial donations may be made to the DECH Palliative Care
