Robert Alexander Saunders Sandy Dingwall – 1926-2017

Robert Alexander Saunders “Sandy” Dingwall
1926-2017
Sandy passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Hospital in Fredericton, NB, on February 24, 2017. He was the beloved
only son of Robert and Marjorie (Saunders) Dingwall of Edmonton, AB.
Sandy was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy Elizabeth
Forbes, formerly of Grimshaw, AB. He is sadly missed by his children,
Alexander (Patricia) of Fredericton, NB, Katherine of Victoria, BC,
and Robert (Brindle Peralta) of Ottawa, ON; as well as his grandson,
Jordan Dingwall of Calgary, AB.
Sandy received his BSc Engineering degree (Physics) from the
University of Alberta and his Masters of Engineering (Electrical) from
the University of Illinois in 1949. Following a stop in Ottawa, where
he worked for the National Research Council, he moved to Rosemere, QC,
where he began a 26 year career with Canadian Aviation Electronics. As
a member of a dynamic engineering team he was involved in the research
and development of aircraft simulators that led to CAE emerging as a
world leader in that technology. During that period he also found time
to be a Math instructor at Sir George Williams University (Concordia)
as well as being an Officer in charge of the Military Reserve Units in
Montreal and Lachute, QC.
In retirement Sandy and Nancy moved to Bath, ON, where they
enjoyed life sailing, travelling, and gardening. Sandy also spent many
hours puffing on his pipe while contemplating the construction of his
model railroad.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date when
his ashes are returned to the family plot in Banff, AB.
