Rita was born April 28th, 1924 in Medicine Hat, Alberta; the daughter of Rudolf & Kathrine Castelani. She married Earl Todd and lived in Medicine Hat until Earl joined the army. They moved to Nova Scotia where he trained before going overseas during WWII. Mom moved back to Medicine Hat and raised Loretta and Larry until Dad returned from the War in 1945. Dad was a mechanic, and Mom was a housewife taking care of the home and kids. Later in life Mom worked for Boylan’s Drug Store and Mrs. Boylan, Cliff Wright, and Vic Link in particular were like family to her. When Dad started Todd’s Shell Service Mom was right there beside him doing the books, and supporting him in so many ways. Mom took care of Dad for many years after his dementia and kept living in her home until a few years ago when it became too much to maintain. For the past year Mom has been a resident of Chinook Village Assisted Living and the care and attention provided was beyond what we could have asked or imagined.
Mom had so many friends, acquaintances, and neighbors, but we do want to mention her neighbors for years on Cypress Way, Bob & Lorraine Emanuel, and Drew and Linda Darley. They were special to Mom. Thanks to Dr. Jonker, Heather, Dr. Monty, Dr. Foley, the nurses and staff on the 5th floor, you were amazing with Mom. Palliative Care even though it was for a short time, thank you for your love and patience.
If anyone needed help, not just family, Mom was always there to support them. She was a great friend to so many but recently, Marion Bauman (deceased) & Loretta Miller in Chinook Village. So many friends we could mention that crossed the path of the Todd Family, to all of you thank you for being an amazing part of our parents and our lives. Wonderful Memories!
Rest in Peace Mom.
