Rhoda Marie Bernard
1937-2017
It is with great sadness the family of Rhoda Marie Bernard
announce her passing on August 26, 2017 at her home in Geary, NB. Born
in Saint John, NB she was the daughter of the late Harold and Annie
(Kierstead) Carr, and beloved wife and lifelong friend of her greatest
love John “Jack” Bernard.
Rhoda held various positions early in life but soon found her
passion and purpose was in her family. She always enjoyed taking part
in her community whether it be on the baseball field, in the hockey
rink or on the soccer field, supporting her children, grand-children
and great grand-children. Rhoda served on the board of
directors for the Skigin-Elnoog Housing and was a respected member of
the New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples Counsel.
In addition to her husband, Rhoda is survived by her
children, Betty Ann (Mike) Lavallee, Michael (Lorraine Augustine) and
Patrick (Sally Whitney) Bernard; grandchildren, Trevor (Crystal)
Lavallee, Jackie (Brandi), Michelle (Darren), Betty Ann, Patrick Jr.
and Dakota Bernard, Michael Cook; 12 great-grandchildren; sister,
Elizabeth Wilson of Woodstock, NB, sister-in-law, Donna Bernard (Louis
Richard) of Saint John, NB; as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Besides her parents, Rhoda was predeceased by her son, Thomas
Albert Bernard and her brother-in-law, Harry Wilson.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home, 108
Winnebago Street, Oromocto, NB on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 2
– 4 and 7 – 9 pm. A memorial service will take
place at the same location on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 11:00 am,
with Fr. Antonio Reyes officiating. A private family interment will be
held at the Oromocto Pioneer Gardens, Oromocto, NB.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital, as
Rhoda’s greatest passion was always to care for children, or
a charity of the donor’s choice.
