His humble beginnings, as a son of a farmer shaped his entire life. His dedication to God, the people he served and his family was an inspiration to all. He had incredible pride for his country and a great passion for music and sport.
He grew up with an incredible thirst to learn and live. He left his village and family early in his teens to quench his thirst for education. After high school, he earned his teaching degree and proceeded to teach in his beloved Cyprus until the Turkish invasion of 1974. Up until that time, he participated and was a strong voice with many other Cypriots in their quest to for freedom and union with Greece from British colonization.
The next chapter of his life brought him to Canada with his family for a new beginning. On May 30th, 1979, he was ordained as a priest at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and was assigned his first parish community in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He led the community in the building of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and Community Centre, now the center of Christian Orthodox faith in Atlantic Canada.
After serving his beloved Halifax parishioners for 12 years, he returned to Toronto where he served with passion and dedication at Metamorphosis Greek Orthodox Church, St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church as well as various other communities such as All Saints Greek Orthodox church and St. George Greek Orthodox church in Guelph, Ontario.
His dedication to his family and love towards his church communities was so overwhelming that it spurred him to work tirelessly until his final days.
His avid love for Byzantine chant was passed on to many students at the Theological Academy and others who shared his passion. He left behind a legacy of Byzantine chanting that always brought him so much joy.
He was grateful to the Metropolitan and respected and loved each and every one of his religious brothers. He loved his parishioners and was always was there to help and support them towards their spiritual growth.
His Presbytera Kalliopi was the love of his life and his four children and grandchildren fueled his energy to serve God. He was proud of his children and grandchildren Marina, Kalia, Michael, Harrison, Nikolas, Matheas, Kalliopi and Aris not only for their accomplishments, but for their good characters.
He will be remembered fondly for his honesty, integrity, his tireless work ethic, his love for his wife and family, his sweet unassuming smile, and his enormous but gentle presence in front of God at church. He will be missed so dearly!
