Downie, Reginald
Passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital on Friday November 3, 2017. Reg Downie, at the age of 92. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Gwendoline. Also survived by his children Reg Downie Jr., Jan (Jim) Wilson and Ian (Tracy) Downie. Dearly missed by his grandchildren, Erin (Matt) Desmarais, Gillian (Phil) Slee, Lee and Danielle Downie. Also missed by his great grandchildren, Sophie and Elliott Desmarais.
Reg arrived in Canada in 1957, followed by his wife and children in 1958. He worked initially at Phillips Cables and spent most of his career at Brockville Chemicals. Both Reg and Gwen were very active volunteers in the Brockville community, being recognized a Citizens of the Year in 1994. Reg was a driving force behind Brockville’s Chernobyl children program, the YMCA Ski Club and the Multi-cultural Festival. Reg took great joy in woodcarving and from the companionship of his many dogs over the years.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East Brockville. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Leeds and Grenville SPCA will be gratefully acknowledged.
