On December 11, 2016 at Edmonton, Edith MacArthur, 100, passed away peacefully. She lived for over a century, teaching school and music, being active in her church, pursuing her interest in travel, discussing her political views, and enriching the lives of her large, extended family. She was committed to education, both learning and teaching, achieving two degrees in music and a Master of Education degree, and becoming a school principal. She will be remembered for her love of music, her wit, her opinions, her fancy sports cars, and her fabulous fudge. She was predeceased by her parents, Malcolm and Lillias MacArthur; and her six siblings, Gwen Manning, Malcolm MacArthur, Don (Lorene) MacArthur, David MacArthur, Daphne (Ted) Greenaway and Arthur (Dodie) MacArthur. She was also predeceased by niece, Laurel Manning; and nephew, William Manning. She is survived by twenty-one nieces and nephews, Dave (Melo) Manning, Don (Norma) Manning, Dan (Mary) Manning, Bruce Manning, Brian MacArthur (Kerri Edwards), Jen MacArthur (Graham Mulligan), Rob (Arlene) MacArthur, Dave (Leslie) MacArthur, Betty MacArthur (Mike Chin), Janet MacArthur, Doug MacArthur, Greg MacArthur, Ted Greenaway Jr., Kerry Greenaway (Rick Jones), Jon (Malanie) Greenaway, Guy Greenaway (Cathy Harbidge), Gwendo Greenaway, Joene MacArthur (Neil McCulloch), Lorrie MacArthur, James MacArthur, and Kim (Peter) Karas.
Edith is also survived by numerous great and great-great nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Francis Winspear Centre for Music.
A Burial Service will take place Thursday December 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Beechmount Cemetery, 12420 – 104th Street NW, Edmonton. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Funeral Home, 9709 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
