2017
Phyllis Evelyn Mighton, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover Care Centre, on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2017, to be reunited with her husband Robert after 16 years. Regretably, not able to stay with us for her 95th birthday, that she was so looking forward to.
Phyllis was born in Greenoch Township on July 22, 1923 to the late John and Minnie (nee Garner) Moore. She was a former member of the Hanover Senior Citizens’ Friendship Group and the Hanover Hospital Auxiliary. She will be remembered by many former students and faculty as a very kind-hearted and loved elementary school teacher. She was a patient woman with an endearing smile. Phyllis endured a lot of hardships and overcame them all with a great sense of humor, empowerment and strength. She was a tough, determined woman that could be fiesty and stubborn, but perhaps it was that determination that made her able to make it to the age she was. Phyllis enjoyed her new home at the Hanover Care Centre when her health was failing. Before moving to the care centre, she resided at The Village where she was an avid card player. She rekindled new friendships and forged new ones over the years at both residences. Often, you could find her sitting by her window watching the birds in the yard come to her birdhouse or watching one of her favorite game shows.
Survived by daughter Evelyn (John) Schafer of Balsam Lake and sons John (Marilyn) Mighton of Hanover and David Mighton of Elmwood. She took great pride in seeing her grandchildren at every chance she could and related their accomplishments to anyone that would listen. Missing her dearly are grandchildren Jeremy (Heather) Mighton, Ben (Shannon) Mighton, Adam (Kim) Mighton, Dan (Kelsey) Mighton, Quintin and Leah Mighton. Phyllis had a special bond with each of her great grandchildren Paige, Carter, Ryder, Hadley, Kassidy, Cole, Addison and Scarlett and they will miss her warm smiles and great hugs. Predeceased by her beloved husband Robert, son Wayne, brother Harold (Elizabeth) Moore and step-father Milton L. Ball.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5-9 pm where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11 am. Interment alongside her beloved husband Robert in Hanover Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Grace United Church Building Fund or to the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
