Phil passed away peacefully in the afternoon of Saturday, March 25, 2017 surrounded by his family at home at the Rose Villa in Rosetown, SK. at the age of 65 years. Phil was born in North Battleford, SK to Armand and Rita Nolin and he grew up on the farm at Turtle Lake, SK. Phil loved horses and he spent most of his life in the wagon. His dad raced wagons so Phil started his career with his brother Gene at the age of 10, on the farm hooking the cart to their old pony and racing around the yard. He raced with the North West Saskatchewan Pony Chuckwagon and Chariot Association for many years. Phil married Pauline Gratton on May 18, 1974 and they started their family in Meadow Lake, SK with Zane born in 1976 and Stacey born in 1981. Eventually they moved to Herschel and finally settled in Rosetown where he continued racing with the South Saskatchewan Pony Chuckwagon and Chariot Association. Phil excelled in many sports including boxing, hockey, curling and bowling. He coached his sister Trudy’s baseball team, his son’s hockey team and his daughter’s bowling team. As a bowler, Phil competed at a national level eventually making it to TV for a spot on TSN Bowling. His picture still hangs at the bowling alley in Rosetown as a Provincial Champion. He was very involved in his community as a member of the Elks Club, he helped organize town dances, turkey shoots and sleigh rides. He was a heavy duty mechanic for the RM of Mountain View until his retirement in 1997. He slowed down a little, but remained active by learning how to golf, camping with his grandkids and of course he continued to follow the Chuckwagon races in the summer.
