Philip Edward Ayling
November 21, 1922 – September 14, 2017
Passed away peacefully at the age of 94 with his family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife Carol Anne Bjarnason and his devoted children with his late wife Jane H. Ayling nee Pond: Janice Anne Siu (Rick), Elizabeth Joan Ayling (Ken Kuzmich) and the late David Phillip Ayling. Proud Grandfather of Jonathan Siu (Sandy), James Siu, Rebekah Siu, Priscilla Buck (Nathan) and Olivia and Julia Kuzmich. Beloved brother of John Charlton Ayling and Joan Mary Jubenville. Loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Phil was a graduate of Trinity College, University of Toronto. He was a high school English & French teacher until his retirement. Nothing made him happier than a visit from one of his grandchildren so he could discuss their accomplishments and offer advice. He encouraged their path toward higher learning. Phil loved playing the piano, reading, playing bridge, and keeping up with current affairs. He was an airforce veteran, a gentleman, and loved a good “pun”. Phil’s humour and storytelling will be missed by all who knew him. The Family extends its sincere gratitude to all the caring staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital. Emergency Room Physician Dr. Tan, Dr. McGary, Nurses Kerri-Ann, Emily and Kristin and Phil’s GP Dr. Azzopardi. You were all exemplary. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday September 23rd at St Mark’s Anglican Church, 51 King Street, Port Hope, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mark’s Anglican Church or Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg are appreciated. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.
