Obituary of Peter Lannon
Lannon, Peter – It is with heavy hearts that we must say goodbye to Peter who passed away peacefully and with great courage on December 26, 2017 at Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital in his 87th year. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his family for his love of life and his contributions to others. He served our country as an Infantry Officer in the Reserves of the Canadian Armed Forces and received the Canadian Forces Decoration with two Bars for his service. Peter entered into the teaching profession at Grantham High School and went on to teach for The Department of National Defence in France and Germany. In later years, he was part of the Niagara District Drama Council while teaching at the St. Catharines Collegiate High School, notably in English and Theatre Arts. After retirement, his passion for teaching extended to Robert Land Academy. He was a skilled sailor, broadcaster for CKTB, and was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Yankees. He will long be remembered for his contributions to the Army and Sea Cadet Movement, Sears Drama Festival and numerous musicals. He was a proud recipient of the Excellence in Education Award and was an inspiration to all of his students.
He is survived by his loving wife Valerie and beloved sons Peter, Matthew and Brendan.
Visitation will be at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Tuesday , January 2, 2017 between 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service to be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 53 Church Street, on Wednesday January 3, 2017 at 11:30 am with cremation to follow. As an expression of sympathy, the family invites any donations to made to 68 Army Cadets, 81 Lake StreetSt Catharines, ON L2R 5X3.
