James Peter Kelly, age 94, formerly of Downie Township, passed away peacefully at People Care, Tavistock on November 13, 2017. Born in Downie Township, March 23, 1923, son of the late William and Margaret (Baker) Kelly. Peter was a veteran of WWII and recently received a metal of Honour from France for having served at Normandy. He worked as a welder at Forman Tank for many years until his retirement. He had been a member of Holy Name of Mary Parish, St. Marys and St. Joseph’s Parish, Stratford. Beloved husband of Winnie (Everitt). Loving father of Gerald (Roberta), Paul (Debbie), Colleen Zinger (Michael) and Leanne Nast (Gerry). Grandfather of Rob Kelly (Darlene), Jen Pinard (Jay), Dwayne (Cathy), Jenine Laverty (Jamie), Becky Zinger (Gavin), Joey Zinger (Tara), Kaley and Abilene Nast. Great grandfather of 8 great grandchildren. Also survived by a brother Maurice Kelly and sisters-in-law Wanita Kelly, Peg Barkley, Norma Vint and Iona Everitt. Visitation at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, November 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday, November 17 at 11:00 am. Rev. Fr. Dick Bester – celebrant. Interment will follow at Avondale Cemetery.
