Paul Joseph Burchill – July 20, 1943 – September 3, 2017 (age 74)

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Paul Joseph Burchill announce his passing which occurred on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Paul was born in Saint John, NB on July 20, 1943 the late Charles and Beulah (Knox) Burchill.
Paul was a hardworking man who started working from the time he was 14 years old. Carpentry ran in his family, but Paul also loved to do steel work and pipefitting and worked as a Welder and Pipefitter with Local 213 and Local 3 for over 40 years. When he wasn’t working, he was spending time outdoors. His family had a cottage at Purdy’s Point called “Nice Place” which was his favorite place to be. In the summer they would have corn boils and endless amounts of friends come over for dinners and water skiing and boating, and hunting. In the winter they would ride the snowmobile up to the cottage. In the last 20 years, Paul spent his free time creating his ultimate dream retirement retreat on Haynes Lake. He loved this peaceful place, and loved to have his family come over. Once his children were grown with families of their own, they were all welcomed to Haynes Lake to have wonderful Sunday family dinners. Paul may have been a busy man, but he was never too busy for his family. He loved his wife and brothers, he adored his children, but he was never happier than when he was with his grandchildren. They were the light of his life and always knew how special they were to him. Everyone who had the privilege to meet him will miss him dearly. He was taken far too soon.
Paul is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children, Carol Ann Frank, his children Paul Douglas (Linda) and Suzanne Burchill, his two adored grandchildren; Ryan and Kristen Burchill, brother Claude Lenghan, special niece Brenda Poirier, special nephews Eric and Charles Burchill, along with sisters-in-law Helen Slattery and Florence Lavine and brother-in-law David Harley, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends and his absolute favorite – his dog, Bootsie. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Gerald Burchill and sister-in-law Helen Burchill.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). In keeping with Paul’s wishes, cremation will occur. Visitation will be held from Fundy Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2pm.
