Le 17 mai 2017, au Centre d’accueil de la Baie à New-Carlisle, est décédé à l’âge de 95 ans, Paul Dallain, époux de Irene Poole demeurant à New-Carlisle.
Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil ses fils, Pierre (Nathalie Sauvé), David (Nathasha Villeneuve), Claude et Patrick (Sylvie Roberge).
Ses petits-enfants, Simon, Corinne, Tristan, Émilie, Philippe, Caroline, Mélanie et Samuel.
Il laisse aussi dans le deuil ses frères Charles (Laurence Samson), Nicolle (feu Louise Grandmont) et Marc, sa belle-soeur Frances McDermid (née Poole),
son beau frère Larry Moniuk (feu Susan Poole) ainsi que ses belles soeurs de la famille Dallain et plusieurs neveux et nièces.
Ses frères Léo (Claire Girard), Francis et Joe (Carol Steponak) soeurs Mary et Alice (feu Gérald Lasnier) l’ont précédé dans la mort.
Vétéran de la bataille de Hong Kong au début de la deuxième guerre mondiale, il a été capturé par les Japonais et tenu prisonnier dans des conditions inhumaines à Hong Kong et au Japon pendant 3 ans et 8 mois avant sa libération le 8 août 1945.
De retour au pays, il a ouvert une quincaillerie à New-Carlisle. Affaibli et ayant souffert de malnutrition durant sa captivité, il a dû abandonner son commerce pour lutter contre la tuberculose.
Pendant les sept années suivantes, il a séjourné dans divers hôpitaux et sanatoriums dont plusieurs années à Sainte-Anne de Bellevue où il a rencontré l’amour de sa vie, la charmante Irene Poole, son ergothérapeute.
Elle est devenue sa femme le 14 mai 1955. De retour à New-Carlisle, il a été maître de poste pendant plus de 25 ans. Malgré toutes ses épreuves, Paul est demeuré un homme simple, ouvert, qui aimait la vie, sa famille et ses amis.
Il était particulièrement heureux quand il allait marcher sur le “boardwalk” de la plage de New-Carlisle où il pouvait prendre l’air, saluer les gens et faire un brin de jasette.
La famille recevra les condoléances le samedi 24 juin à compter de 9h00 au salon funéraire Henri Thibodeau inc. situé au 197 boul Gérard-D.-Lévesque à New-Carlisle. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église catholique de New-Carlisle à compter de 11h00.
La direction des funérailles a été confiée au Salon funéraire Henri Thibodeau inc. de New-Carlisle.

We have been asked to announce the death of Paul Dallain of New Carlisle, which occurred at the Centre d’accueil de la Baie in New-Carlisle on May 17th, 2017 at the age of 95.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 62 years, Irene Poole; their sons, Pierre (Nathalie Sauvé), David (Nathasha Villeneuve), Claude and Patrick (Sylvie Roberge); his loving grandchildren, Simon, Corinne, Tristan, Émilie, Philippe, Caroline, Mélanie and Samuel.
He also leaves to mourn his brothers; Charles (Laurence Samson), Nicolle (the late Louise Grandmont) and Marc; predeceased by his sisters Alice (the late Gérald Lasnier) and Mary and his brothers Leo (Claire Girard), Francis and Joe (Carol Steponak);
and sister-in-law Frances McDermid (nee Poole), his brother-in-law Larry Moniuk (the late Susan Poole) as well as his sisters-in-law from the Dallain family and many nieces and nephews.
A veteran of the battle of Hong Kong at the beginning of the Second World War, he was captured by the Japanese and held as a prisoner of war in inhumane conditions for 3 years and 8 months until his liberation on August 8th 1945.
Back home after the war, he opened a hardware store in New-Carlisle. Weakened and having suffered from malnutrition during captivity, he had to abandon his business to focus on fighting tuberculosis.
During the following 7 years, he was hospitalised in several hospitals and sanatoriums including in Sainte-Anne de Bellevue where he met the love of his life, Irene Poole, his charming Occupational Therapist.
They were married on May 14th, 1955. Upon his return to New Carlisle, he worked as postmaster for over 25 years. Despite the hardships, Paul remained a humble and open minded man who loved life, his family and friends.
He was especially fond of his daily walks on the boardwalk at the beach where he would get fresh air, meet people and chat a bit.
The family will receive the condolences at the Henri Thibodeau Funeral Home of New Carlisle on Saturday June 24th starting at 9 AM. The Funeral service will be held at the Catholic Church in New Carlisle on the same day at 11AM.
Donations to the Fondation du Centre d’Accueil de la Baie or a cause of your choice will be appreciated.
