Owen was born in Sweet Grass, Alberta. In 1928 his family moved to Black Diamond, Alberta where he was raised. He attended C. Ian McLaren School in Black Diamond. He worked the oil patch as general labour and eventually ended up working for Harry Denning on the Bar V X Ranch where he met and married his wife June. He joined the RCAF in 1941 where he served as a fire fighter. After leaving the air force he and June bought a 1/2 section of land west of the Bar V X Ranch where they lived… and farmed for 70 years. He moved to the High Country Lodge in Black Diamond and later to Seton Age Care, Calgary where he passed peacefully at the age of 97 years. Owen was predeceased by his wife June and oldest daughter Janet Lee McHugh (Frank), along with his brother Guy. Owen is survived by his 3 daughters: Roberta Danforth, Marilyn Roth (Eric) and Jacqueline Lacey as well as his sister Erma Brown and brother (Earl) Barney Danforth. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Owen’s passion in life was fishing and he and his daughters Roberta and Marilyn accompanied him on many occasions. He will be sorely missed.
