Obituary of Otfried “Fred” Malchin
MALCHIN, Otfried (Fred) died on December15th, 2017, at the age of 88. After a battle lost to Cancer, he is now at peace, but sadly missed by all. He was the son of the late Johannes Malchin and his wife, the late Elisabeth Malchin (Arens) of Naumburg, Germany. Devoted, loving husband of 57 years to Gisela (Hodonsky). Loving father of Glen (Joyce), Jeannette (Jorge) and the late Bernard. Dear grandpa to Brady (Brooke), Dylan (Sabrina), Katarina and Andrea; and dearest ‘Opa’ (great-grandfather) to Colton, Kennedy and Damien.
Fred was a kind, always helpful, considerate, and modest person, and a passionate horticulturist. His quiet, endless listening skills and – sometimes sarcastic – remarks endeared him to many. He loved travel, enjoyed nature, which he considered his church; and felt close to heaven, when listening to his favourite classical music.
Fred will be very much missed, and lovingly remembered by his family and many friends in Canada, Austria, Germany, and U.S.A.
Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Rd., north of Maple Ave., Georgetown on Friday, Dec. 22, from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, Dec. 23, at 11 am. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, contributions to CASHH, Georgetown Hospital Foundation, or the Salvation Army would be appreciated. To send expressions of sympathy, visit www.jsjonesandsonfuneralhome.com
