Orval (Oege) Okkema, at the age of 88, went to his eternal home, welcomed in the arms of his heavenly Father, December 10, 2016, after more than a year of battling cancer. Orval was born in Friesland, June 3rd, 1928. In 1952 he immigrated to Canada and in 1953 he married Ann deJong. They were blessed with 3 children and were married for over 63 years. Orval loved and served his Saviour, Jesus Christ all his life. He supported his family as a baker, his life-long passion. His family, friends and community will miss his smiles and laughter, his faith and love, and his encouraging words. He is loved and missed by his wife, Ann, their children, Mark and Sue, Tilda and Ed, and Ray, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The visitation will be at the Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 2723 Victoria St N, Breslau, ON N0B 1M0 on Thursday, December 15th from 2-6pm. The funeral service will be on Friday, December 16th at 1pm at New Life Christian Reformed Church, 400 Victoria Rd N, Guelph, ON N1E 5J7.
