Olive Strid
With heavy hearts, the family of Olive Strid announce her passing on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 90 years.
Olive was born in Tofield, AB, on November 11, 1926. She was raised in the Fitzsimmons district (north of Bezanson).
She served in the army and then worked as a Nurse’s Aide in Fort St. John before marrying Lester Strid on November 16, 1954. They raised 3 children and farmed in the Bad Heart area until Lester’s death in 1988.
Olive remained on the family farm until 2010, when she moved to Dieppe Manor, and then to Heritage Lodge in Grande Prairie.
Olive enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping, playing cards, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was well known for her hard work and hospitality.
She was a lifetime member of the Bezanson CWL and had just received her 40 year pin.
Olive leaves to morn her daughters: Karen (Robin), and Darlene (Vern); son Barry (Karen); grandchildren Riley (Lisa), Melanie (Peter), and David; great-granddaughters: Rain, Tess, Piper, and Zoey; sisters: Margaret, and Evelyn; brother Hans; sister in-law Carol; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Lester; parents Hans and Annie Ruch; sisters: Eva, Lenore, Charlotte, and Alberta; 6 brothers in-law; and grandson Stephen.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 2:00pm, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bezanson,
Memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Women’s League in Bezanson c/o Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (General Delivery, Bezanson, AB, TOH 0G0) or to the charity of one’s choice.
