Olive Leitch

Olive Leitch June 24, 1918 – June 17, 2017

LEITCH, Olive – Olive Marion Leitch, originally of South Branch Road, Cornwall, died peacefully June 18, 2017 in her 99th year at Woodlands Villa, Long Sault. Olive was born in November 24, 1918 to Lila Sinclair and William Leitch. She was a top student and graduated from CCVS during the 1930s. She excelled also in music, completing conservatory level 8 piano from Hull, Quebec. She performed at weddings and entertained guests who came to the family home on the South Branch, in what became known as ‘the piano room’. During the 2nd World War, for the Red Cross, Olive took up knitting mitts for soldiers, a skill that she continued well into her 70s. Working in the family maple sugar camp was hard work as Olive recalled, and which took the life of an unborn sibling. The highlight of her life came when she took a train to Cold Lake, Alberta to work in a pharmacy; clearly adventurous during the pre-feminist 1950s era. Returning to the South Branch Road in the late 50s, she raised chickens. With her mother Lila, Olive was active in the United Church and the Ladies Missionary Society, raising money for work in Africa and China. Olive had a brilliant memory and lived more in the past than present. During her final years she was encircled with love, gentleness and kindness by the staff of Woodlands Villa. Olive is predeceased by her loving parents and dear brother William Sinclair ‘Clair’ and best friends Margariet McPhee and Anna Vance. She leaves behind her nieces Helen Leitch (Italy), Betty McDonald (Martintown) and Norma Winters (Cornwall), sister-in-law Florence (Cornwall) and the many loving staff at Woodlands Villa, Long Sault. Service St Andrews Church Williamstown June 23 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers Olive would have liked it if everyone reading this goes and visits a relative or friend that they have not seen in some time.
