Norman William Nelson – May 20, 1932 – July 22, 2017 (age 85)

Norm grew up on the farm at Nelson Lake and attended Magic school and also Ponoka. Norm married Connie on July 9, 1960. He worked at the MacLeods Hardware, the Alberta Wheat Pool, Alberta Dairy Pool (Ponoka and Rocky Mountain House), Field Motors and Louks Motors for 18 years. In 1971 he bought the Harware store and sold it in 1990. Norm also worked for Stampede Ford in Ponoka for three years until his retirement. Norm enjoyed spending his winters in Meza, Arizona for 16 years and enjoyed travelling and camping with friends. Norm was a life member of the Ponoka Kinsmen Club as well as a life member of the Ponoka Masonic Lodge. He was a board member of the Ponoka Stampede Association and the Ponoka Hockey Association. Norm was an arena announcer for ten years.
Norman was survived by his brother Larry (Muriel), sister-in-law Elsie, chosen son Wade Stephan and Wade’’s sons Briley, Liam, and Ethan as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by his loving wife Connie, his parents May and Debs Nelson, his siblings Gerald, Vickie and Marjorie, and his nephew Duncan.
There’s still time to send flowers to the Memorial Service at the Royal Canadian Legion at 1:00 PM on July 28, 2017.
