Norma Irene DeLong (nee Weldon) passed away peacefully January 17, 2017 at the age of 83 surrounded by the love of her family. Norma was born July 8, 1933 in Melbourne, Ontario to Wilber and Edna Weldon, third child in a family of 7 children. As a young child, her family returned to Alberta to be close to family. She spent the majority of her youth in Lacombe. At the age of 17, Norma attended the University of Alberta to become a teacher. She taught until December 27, 1952 when she married John DeLong. Norma was always busy, raising their 4 children, helping with the running of her’s and John’s business endeavours, traveling and with volunteer community work. In 2000, Norma was diagnosed with Parkinson disease. She also battled macular degeneration which eventually took her sight. Norma is survived by her husband of 64 years John DeLong; their children Linda (Ryan) Lees, Jim (Linda) DeLong, Bob (Mary) DeLong, and Kathy (Reg) Radke; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Saturday January 21, 2017 at the Olds United Church with Reverend Tammy Allan officiating.
