Obituary Overview
Norma Hunt
It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Norma Hunt, on December 20, 2017. Norma passed away peacefully, with family at her side, after a brief stay at St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Norma Fay Olson was born to Carl and Mae Olson on November 24, 1944 at McKellar Hospital. Norma was raised in Pearl, Ontario; after her graduation from Lakeview High School, she moved to Fort William (now Thunder Bay).
Mother of George Henry (Denisse), Toronto; Elizabeth Chichka (John), Maple Ridge, BC. Survived also by grandchildren Andrew and Matthew Chichka; Rebecca and Daniel Henry; Ethan, Patrick and Katrina Hunt; Sarah and Emily Wong; sister Judy Belrose; brothers Allan Olson (Penny), Coquitlam, BC; Eric Olson (Judy), Fort St. John, BC; sister-in-law Sally Kukko (Ron); daughter-in-law Kathy Hunt, Red Deer, AB; son-in-law Gerry Wong, Markham. Also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends. Norma was predeceased by husband Paul and numerous other relatives.
Norma took great pleasure connecting people together. Her life revolved around enjoying time laughing with friends and family at Silver Islet, church, various community events and just about everywhere she went. She diligently worked as a financial administrator, both on her own and with the Spence Clinic, Lakehead Freightways, Avis, and the Regional Conservation Authority. She was particularly proud and honoured of her appointment as Provincial Returning Officer in 1998.
Children were a joy in her life as she always felt they are the future of our country, so we should help them be the best they can as they will be looking after us one day. All children that knew her, whether young or old, may have memories of Norma and these are the things she would like to see them pass on to other children, to provide continued support for children throughout our communities and families.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at First-Wesley United Church, 130 N. Brodie Street, on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to First-Wesley Memorial Endowment Fund or to a charity of your choice that will help a child or homeless person.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre for all the care and support they provided over the past year.
