Thanks to our friends and the Molloy and Kennedy families that helped and supported us throughout this difficult year. Much gratitude is extended to the most excellent medical team and staff at the Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit, to the caregivers at Cambridge Estates and to Heather MacDonald with the City of St. John’s.
When our mother finished school in Trepassey, she went to Littledale and Memorial University College. Her first teaching post was in Bonavista where she taught for 3 years. After that, she relocated to teach in Portugal Cove South. She met our dad there at a parish dance, a story dad liked to recount. They married and started their family.
Our mother was always active in whatever community she belonged, writing, directing, producing and participating in the concerts in Trepassey; a member of Women’s Institute and Charismatics; a Eucharistic minister, singer and reader, and as Father Dohey put it, an icon in the Parish. When our family moved from Trepassey, mom went to work at St. Clare’s Hospital, soon deciding that she would like to be in a position to help patients.
She went back to school to become a licensed practical nurse at age 56, where, of course, she was senior in her class of young people who loved her. Mom achieved her goal and then worked for 10 years at St. Luke’s Mercy home. When she retired she continued to volunteer at the home until our father became ill. She loved her family more than anything else, and music, (she was an accordion and harmonica player), dance, cards, fun and laughter, together, were a real close second.
Norah will be resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, Lemarchant Road on Wednesday, September 20 and Thursday, September 21 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm each day. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11am from St. Patrick’s Church. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
