Obituary for Nora Grenfell
Peacefully on October 21, 2017, Nora passed away at the age of 91, with her family by her side. Left to cherish her memory are her son Peter (Vicky), her daughter Christine (Retired Colonel Richard) and her grandson Eric. She was predeceased by her husband Ken, daughter Susan, son Brian, as well as her parents, James and Hannah and brothers Reilly and Gordon.
Nora was born on January 10th, 1926 in Bedlington, Northumberland, England. It was there that she met her husband Ken and they were married in 1950. Nora received her training as a physiotherapist in England prior to them emigrating to Canada in 1953.
Nora practiced as a physiotherapist in Winnipeg. She was a founder of the University of Manitoba School of Medical Rehabilitation in 1953. She worked for many organizations, including the Shriners Hospital, Canadian Arthritis Society, Grace General Hospital, and Deer Lodge Centre. She was awarded her lifetime membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in 1997.
In addition to her professional career, Nora was a long-time volunteer in Winnipeg with Agape Table and Meals on Wheels.
Nora was an active member of St. Andrews Anglican Church, where she served as both the Rector’s Warden and the People’s Warden. She was a Synod Delegate and served on the vestry. She was also a member of the Alter Guild and the church refugee committee.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff on 3 West at Extendicare Oakview Place for the care and compassion given to Nora over the last 3 years.
A celebration of life will take place on Thursday October 26, 2017 at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Avenue, at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in the memory of Nora can be made to the charity of your choice.
