Nellie Elizabeth Kinsie – 1923 – 2017

Obituary of Nellie Kinsie
Passed away suddenly on the morning of February 24, 2017. Wife of the late Archie (1996).
Dear mother of Fred and wife Nancy (Nickel), grandmother to Josh (Krista) and Sarah (Jeremy) and great-grandmother to Jaedon Rousseau, Faith and Grace Kinsie. Daughter of the late bishop Oscar Burkholder and Mary Reesor. Survived by sister Agnes (Hilton) Staynor. Predeceased by sister Marie (Art) Gingrich and brothers John (Elaine) and Clayton (Helen). Fondly remembered by nineteen nieces and nephews, cousin Marg Thompson and life long friend Mildred Nickel.
Nellie grew up in Breslau and broke the mold of the sixties house wife, venturing from the home to work in retail and eventually founding her own 30-store chain of yarn and needle craft shops. Often at odds with organized religion, she remained faithful to her personal God and comforter. A devoted reader of the Bible, she reacted strongly to passages that were contradictory to her view of a just world (look out Paul and Moses, here she comes).
Friends are invited to share their memories of Nellie with her family during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 6 – 7 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 7:00pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Claire Osinkosky and Muriel Bechtel officiating. Reception will follow.
Thanks for the kindness shown by Dr. Craig Albrecht and the staff at Fairview.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Fairview Mennonite Home or Mennonite Central Committee by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
