Nellie (Kowal) Thom – 2017

Mrs. Nellie Thom of Brandon, formerly of Melita, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 94.
Nellie is survived by three daughters: Elsie (Roy) Mitchell of Fresno, California, Myrna Schween of Brandon, MB. and Rhonda (Keith) McMaster of Melita, MB.; one son, Douglas Thom of Porta Alegre, Brazil; two sons-in-law: Sheldon Cavers of Brandon and Arthur Lepp of Carman, MB.; three brothers: John (Lois) Kowal of Killarney, MB., Walter (Joey) Kowal of Calgary, AB. and Joe (Lil) Kowal of Dryden, ON.; two sisters-in- law: Luella Kowal of Killarney and Gladys Thom of Deloraine. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Arnold in 2004, her daughter Julie in 1990, her son Hilton in 2010, her daughter Arlene in 2016, her grandson Gavin in 2015, her son-in-law Ray Schween in 2016, her one brother Frank Kowal, and her three sisters, Rosie Finnon, Mary Danley, and Annie Nelson.
There will be a private family funeral for our Mom.
Mom will be missed by all her family and friends who loved her dearly!
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations in memory of Nellie can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Unit 3 – 2430 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB. R7B 0M5, the Canadian Cancer Society, 415 1st Street East, Brandon, MB. R7A 2W8 and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1000-191 Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. R3B 0X1.
