Nancy Josephine Mackie (nee Wilde) of Midland, Ontario, died peacefully on November 9, 2017 at Hospice Simcoe in the company of family. She was 88. Nancy is loved and will be greatly missed by her three children Alan (Claire), Diane (Dan) and Kathy (Stefan); grandchildren Cameron and Andrew; her partner George Norval and his family; and a large extended family.
Born in 1929 in Toronto, Ontario, Nancy grew up in the Beaches, then later on Toronto Island and graduated from Jarvis Collegiate. While working at the Bank of Montreal, she met her husband Ron whom she married in 1950 and shared 35 happy years until his death in 1985. His career required the family move frequently within Canada and they made many lifelong friends spanning from the east coast to the prairies.
Nancy was an avid knitter, reader and keen bridge player, which is where she met George. Together they spent the last ten years making several trips west to visit family and several trips overseas. At home, they enjoyed gardening, watching golf and curling on TV, and cheering on the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Her grandchildren were very special to her and she was actively involved in her their lives.
We feel blessed to have had Nancy as our Mom, grandmother and friend. She was thoughtful, considerate, gracious and loving. She lived her life with kindness and caring and faced her long illness with grace, resilience and determination.
We are grateful to all of the nurses and doctors who cared for Mom at Princess Margaret Hospital, Tiffin House in Midland, and Hospice Simcoe. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at The Midland Cultural Centre, 333 King Street, Midland ON at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Simcoe or the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated. Messages of condolence may be left at leclaircremationcentre.ca.
