Nancy Catherine Works
1920-2017
Nancy Catherine Works – 97, Bible Hill,
passed away peacefully, with her daughters, sister and nephew at her
side, on Thursday evening, November 30, 2017, at Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro. Born in North River, she was a daughter of the
late Calvin and Beatrice (Nelson) McNutt.
Nancy was a graduate of Provincial Normal College, Truro, and
had taught school in several schools in Colchester County. She was a
honourary life member of the Alumni of Nova Scotia Teachers College.
She was a member of St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill,
where she was an elder for many years, a choir member for more than 60
years, a charter and life member of St. David’s United
Church Women and a member of Hannah Unit. She had served as treasurer
of St. David’s Memorial Fund and had been a Presbytery
representative for several years and was also a Messenger leader and a
member of Bible Hill Home and School Association.
Nancy is survived by her children, Janice (Ron) Swan, Valley;
Ardith (Don) Christie, Oxford; David (Joanne) Works, Paradise,
Newfoundland; Fred (Karen) Works, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Kevin
(Darah), Darren (Andreana), Pam (Anthony), Stephen (Cassie), Amanda
(Mark), Nicole (Keenan), Alex (Olga), Ryan, Kristin (Colin); great
grandchildren, Maxwell, Donnie, Abby Rose, Carter; sister, Mabel
McNutt, Bible Hill; several nieces and nephews. Along with her
parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Allison Works;
sister, Ollie McNutt; brothers, Ray (Winnie) McNutt, Vic McNutt,
Sterling McNutt.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Stephen Ellis for his
years of care, nursing staff of Intermediate Care Unit at Colchester
East Hants Health Centre for their wonderful care and also to
VON.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Nancy’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2017.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2017, at St.
David’s United Church, 18 St. David’s Avenue
(corner of Pictou Road and St. David’s Avenue), Bible Hill,
Reverend Donna Lawrence officiating. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery.
Reception will follow in St. David’s Hall. Family flowers
only. If so desired, donations in Nancy’s memory to St.
David’s United Church (General Fund) or VON are welcomed.
