Myrtle Ellen Sutherland 13 mai 1920 – 26 mars 2017

Myrtle Ellen Sutherland passed away in the Halifax Infirmary hospital, March 26th at the age of 96 years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Myrtle was the third of five daughters born to parents John Gordon and Florence Rose (Nichols) Sutherland. She was born in Cross-roads, Country Harbour May 13th 1920. Myrtle spent most of her working life in Halifax. She enjoyed cooking and baking and in her younger years, she liked to sew and did some lovely embroidery work. Myrtle was an avid hockey fan and a staunch supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs. She is survived by one niece, Carol Watson and husband Derek of New Ross. Three great nieces, Heather Hirtle, husband Robert of Mahone Bay; Children Patrick and Victoria; Great grand nephew Thatcher. JoAnne Conrad, husband David of Marriot’s Cove. Erica Watson Slevin, children Hunter and Violet, Edmonton Alberta. Grand nephew Bruce Goldsmith, wife Dorothy of White’s Lake, son Timothy. Myrtle was very close with Bruce as he helped her over the course of many years to maintain her independence. She was pre-deceased by sisters Jean, Ethel, Stella and Mabel as well as her parents. No visitation. Interment to take place in Oakridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Sackville at a private ceremony. Thank you to all neighbors and home care workers who looked out for her so she could remain in her own home as long as she did. Also thanks to the staff of the Infirmary for their excellent care in her last weeks and the staff of Atlantic Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to QE2 Health Sciences Centre.
