Myrtle Buxton – 2017

Myrtle Buxton
Myrtle Buxton, 104 years, of Moncton, passed away at The
Grass Home, Riverview, on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.
Born in Midway, Albert Co., she was the daughter of the late
Raymond and Maude (Smith) Tingley. Myrtle was a member of the former
Humphrey Memorial United Church (now Visions United). She had a green
thumb and spent many enjoyable hours in their vegetable and flower
gardens. Often friends would bring dying plants, especially violets,
to her to coax back to life and she rarely failed in doing so. She and
her husband, Walter, travelled extensively in their camper van during
their retirement years, enjoying trips from Newfoundland to Alaska and
everywhere in between.
Myrtle was a graduate of The Moncton Hospital School of
Nursing and spent most of her nursing career in the employ of Dr. E.W.
Ewart and Dr. O.J. White. She was a recipient of the Canadian Silver
Jubilee Medal in 1977, in honor of her work over the years with the
Nurse’s Hospital Auxiliary of which she was a life
member.
Myrtle is survived by daughters, Barbara Gardiner (Charles)
of Antigonish, NS, Brenda Robinson of Riverview, NB and Elizabeth
Bourque (Ronald) of Waterloo, ON; stepdaughter, Arline Cormier (late
Tim) of Moncton; grandchildren, Chris Viberg of Hillsborough, Eric
Bourque of Dartmouth, Tracy Gardiner Dollard (James) of Antigonish,
Jennifer Ayers (Kyle) of Trophy Club, Texas, Brian Bourque (Lisa) of
Waterloo, Todd Gardiner (Lisa) of Dartmouth; step grandchildren,
Robert Cormier of Moncton, Deborah Cornell (Glen) of Middle Sackville;
14 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; nephews and a
niece. She was predeceased by her first husband, Herbert Robinson
(1948) and second husband, Walter Buxton (1997); two brothers, Hinson
(in infancy) and Clarence.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life service will
be held at a later date from Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657
Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995).
Donations to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital or a charity
of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
